Training Report - 14/3/08

By nemir
I couldn’t stay for the whole session ‘cause the boss rang wondering where I was.

And I neglected to bring anything to take notes with, so I am relying on my fragile and fractured powers of recollection.

The modified group consisted of Jobe Watson, Buddha Hocking, Welsh and someone that I am thinking was Gumby. But don’t hold me to that. It was glary. They did pretty much nothing but hand based ball skills, with a lot of quick, sharp handball as well as volleyball type stuff over their heads. They were at various things along those lines for maybe twenty minutes before they went inside.

I was too busy watching them early on to notice exactly what the main group, but when I looked up they were in the midst of a tackling drill where 2 players are prone on the ground about ten yards apart. One has a football. On someone’s mark, the guy with the football attempts to get past his opponent without being tackled. It seemed that the tacklers just needed to get a solid grip on a jumper to win, and I didn’t see anyone with the footy win. Dempsey and Alwyn were paired together and seemed to just go through the motions as though they both knew that the end result was inevitable. The closest to success was Lovett. He was matched against CJ, and tried a different tack, dodging, baulking and backtracking around. Wrong footed him and nearly got through before CJ managed to apply a bear hug.

After about ten minutes of that the lads were split into four teams, two teams up at each end. They went through some basic man on man matchday simulation, looking at dealing with forward fifty entries.

This only lasted ten minutes or so before they were called in for a drinks break. I think they went back to it again for another ten minutes. Then more drinks. Then a different exercise where guys queued up to practice passing the ball from on flank to another. The receiver of this pass found a leading forward, who would kick a goal. The guys rotated through each group after their turn.

It was at this point that I had to leave.
