From The Armchair #8 - Perspective

I think many Bomber Fans need to drink from the cup of “Perspective”, instead of the cup of “Unrealistic”.

For the past 5-6 years we have been given and dished up unrealistic hope from our Head Coach, and reflective of that was drafting and trading which was not conducive to success, short or long term.

Matthew Knights at the start of this year said and I quote “We are here to try and win and play finals footy”. Now this can and seems to have been misunderstood. Knights wants and will only accept a winning culture, they will be trying to win every game, sure its a young side but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t expect them to win, but in reality he isn’t going to say “I expect to play finals football in 2008”… That was and never has been the expectation. Trying and expecting are 2 different things.

New coach, new game plan, new players all combine to create a different expectation. Lets not forget we have finished in the bottom 4 the last 2 years, so why should we expect to be a Top 8 side. In reality we are a bottom 8 side.

Add to this we have lost Lucas, McVeigh, Dempsey, Jetta, Gumbleton, Davey to injuries, also missing in action are Lloyd, McPhee, Laycock and many others who quite simply are out of form and being carried by a select few (Stanton, Hille, Watson etc…)

So people keep your anger in check, see 2008 as you should with hope but not over inflated expectation. This is a young group and they will fly by the seat of their pants. Let them try and get Game Plan A right and not expect them to work on Plan B…

I will pot 1 player, and I will be on his back for the remainder of this year.

MATTHEW LLOYD

This man is our captain, hard to tell when he kicked his 3rd goal of the game and we were some 50+ points down. He was smiling and grining while skipping back to his FF post. I have never seen ANY captain in my time ever smile and grin like that when his side is on the end of an ASS-RAPING. That was a Piccone act, and frankly I am tired of the Matthew “One Man” Lloyd and his inability to DO something when the side needs it.

This adds more fuel to my burning fire that Lloyd needs to start acting like a Captain on the field because. No questions about off field, but onfield leadership is lacking, irrelevant and void from Lloyd. Knights either needs to play him in a different role across Half Forward and get him in the play and the middle of the ground to provide some marking KPP or put him in the cheer squad because as a stay at home FF he is useless to us. Oh he kicked 3 goals, wooped dee doo. I would rather Lloyd kicks 0 and we come close because we have opened up our Fwd line for more options.
