McPhee & Lovett-Murray Outed

If injuries were not bad enough, Essendon’s stuttering 2008 AFL season has suffered another setback with Adam McPhee and Nathan Lovett-Murray both hit with suspensions by the AFL Match Review Panel on Monday afternoon.

McPhee was charged with making forceful front-on contact to Port Adelaide youngster Travis Boak while Lovett-Murray was charged with striking Power forward Daniel Motlop.

Nathan Lovett-Murray, Essendon, has been charged with a Level Two striking offence against Daniel Motlop, Port Adelaide, during the second quarter of the Round Seven match between Essendon and Port Adelaide, played at Telstra Dome on Sunday May 4, 2008.

In summary, his previous poor record means that his one-match sanction cannot be reduced with an early plea.

The incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has an existing bad record of three matches suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 30 per cent and 37.50 points to 162.50 demerit points. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 121.88 points and a one-match sanction.
