Bendigo Downed In Rama's Return

The return to football after two years of Adam Ramanauskas was not enough to spark Bendigo to their second successive victory as they went down to Sandringham by 7 points at Windy Hill in the VFL Round 3 clash on Sunday afternoon.

In front of a crowd around 3000, Ramanauskas made his way onto the field midway through the first quarter and played a majority of the match without incident to finish with 12 possessions.

“The way he played today suggests he’s a little bit more forward than we thought,” Bendigo coach Matthew Knights said. “He’s been training for eight to 10 weeks so he’s got some miles inhis legs. The biggest scenario he was going to face were the tackles,
bumps and hits. And he didn’t blink an eye. That’s probably the most pleasing aspect. He would have got an enormous amount of confidence out of today. He’s a very realistic chance to play (for Essendon) this year, no doubt. He could be a pretty dangerous player coming in fresh mid-year.”

In the match itself, Bendigo blew a golden opportunity to move into the VFL Top 8 after trailing for most of the day to hit the lead into time-on in the last term after a four goal in five minute burst but Sandringham replied with the final two goals of
the game to take home the points.
