Essendon have revealed a new jumper design to use in the upcoming Round 13 clash with Melbourne for “cancer awareness”.
After having the clubs request to wear yellow armbands rejected by the AFL, Essendon have added a yellow band to the clubs traditional jumper.
However questions have been raised amongst some about the legality of the yellow shoulder band in accordance with Essendon’s club constitution.
Essendon CEO Peter Jackson himself stated recently when told by the AFL the club could wear yellow in its jumper instead of the armbands.
“I would have thought they more than anyone, would know our constitution says, the jumper’s got to be Black with a Red Sash. And to throw out a gesture, that we can wear a yellow jumper, we just can’t do it. I’M NOT ALLOWED TO DO IT!"
Essendon’s constitution states –
- The Colours of the Club will be red and black.
– The uniform for the AFL Premiership season will consist of a black jumper or guernsey with a red sash, red and black socks and white or black shorts
Any change to these terms can only go ahead by 75% approval by Essendon members at a General Meeting.
