Another year of pumped up talk, rumours left right and centre has come to nothing as the AFL’s Trade Week ended Friday afternoon with the least amount of trades ever recorded.
In the washup Essendon has gained the services of Geelong midfielder Brent Prismall for the Bombers #39 draft selection.
Prismall, 22, played 25 AFL games for the Cats since his debut in 2006 but is expected to miss most (if not all) of the 2009 AFL Season after suffering a knee injury in the Cats Qualifying Final against the Saints last month.
“It’s fantastic, we’re really rapt to have young Brent joining our football club,” Essendon coach Matthew Knights said.
“He’s 22 years of age, he really fits our demographic [with] where we’re heading as a footy club, and in speaking to him he’s got aspirations in leadership which really impressed us.
“Obviously he’s got a knee injury but we’re willing to be patient with that and work through that injury with him. We’ve taken more a long-term prospective on bringing him to our club.
“I think it’s a great result and a fair and equitable result.”
Talk of Andrew Lovett being traded came to nothing as Essendon and Geelong failed to reach a “mutually beneficial agreement”.
