Essendon skipper Matthew Lloyd will head to the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night after the club challenged the AFL Match Review Panel’s ruling which handed Lloyd a one week suspension for charging Melbourne full-back Nathan Carroll after the three-quarter-time siren in last Friday night’s game.
The match review panel assessed the incident as intentional (three points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point) for a total of five activation points, resulting in a level-two offence that draws 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction. Lloyd’s five-year good record reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to
168.75 points and a one-match ban.
Andrew Welsh was luckier after he was offered a reprimand for making forceful contact with Melbourne’s Brad Green.
The Bombers also suffered a blow on the training track on Monday with midfielder Jason Winderlich suffering a hamstring injury late in the session and he may be sidelined for this Friday night’s AFL Round 14 clash with AFL Ladder leader along with fellow midfielder Brent Stanton who continues to struggle with an ankle injury.
