Blitzing the Blitzers! - Reboot

By Albert_Thurgood
This week we start a new feature for BomberBlitz. Regular readers of the Forums get a sense of the community we have here, and will form some ideas about what their fellow members are like, but these interviews will get all that juicy info together into one package!

Each week we will post an interview with a different BB member. We start off with one of the longest-serving Blitzers, a bloke who has developed a bit of a reputation over the years as a man of mystery, and whose posts always display a blend of a good sense of humour and common sense. Reboot, welcome to Blitzing the Blitzers!

Let’s start by asking about your alias. Some people stick by the same one, but you changed yours from the original I first knew you by. Back in the day, you were anotherfnreboot – is your current alias streamlined to fit the modern world, or have you mellowed with time?
When I first joined BB it was actually anotherfnreboot due to using Windows 2000 and always having to fn reboot. Then Bomberman 007 kindly gave me a copy of XP Pro, and it was subsequently shortened to its current state.

There is a wide range of avatars on BB. What message about yourself are you sending to the world with your avatar?
None really. I’ve had many avatars over the years. My current one, the dancing duck, makes me laugh. And I needed a new one when my beloved giraffe refused to animate anymore on BB for some reason. (still animates everywhere else)

Your byline is “Vice-President”. Do you think that you would be a good right-hand man for Ray Horsburgh or do you prefer the “vice” aspect? On BB, you have an enviable reputation for the latter!
I think I’d make a wonderful right hand man for Ray. Certainly wouldn’t get any brown nosing from me. And I would definitely let him know what the fan in the outer thought. But truth be know; the vice bit is pretty good too! Although professionally speaking I’m retired from that world now.

When Andy loosens the purse-strings and shouts drinks at this year’s BB Christmas Party, what’s your usual “poison”?
Pretty boring in that regard these days. I drink alcohol (buorbon only) once a week: usually with a mate in his workshop on a Sat afternoon/evening. But basically I’m too health concious to go overboard with anything.

BBers live in many locations around the world, though most reside in Melbourne. Where do you hang your hat these days?
Currently a little town of 529 souls called Rainbow. It’s about 108km out of Horsham. It’s one of those places where the men are men, the sheep are nervous, and if you don’t vote National Party you keep quiet about it! A place where total strangers say hello and ask how you are. Although I’m told it takes about 25 years before you are considered a local!

One strange fact about yourself? (You may find it hard to limit yourself to one!)
Knocked back a full scholarship to Duntroon when I was younger. Could have been General Reboot by now! lol.

How do you spend your non-Essendon time … occupation, other hobbies and interests?
Retired …….. so, a little bit of this, a little bit of that. I’m an absolute screaming gym junkie. Also love music, reading, most sports, cars, blackbearding software, and wenches. Have a bit of a geeky thing for history as well. Oh, and pole dancers! Computers I suppose. Did I mention pole dancers?

If applicable, does your other half share your interest in EFC? If s/he follows another team, how do you get on if that team beats us?
My ex wife follows the Bombers, as do my two sons. To be fair, they had no choice. When it comes to my family and following an AFL team, I’m afraid my inner Hitler comes to the fore, and it’s my way or the highway!

On the BomberBlitz Pizza® what topping would you be ?
Anchovies. An aquired taste. lol.

Let’s talk about Bomberblitz

Nominate favourite/Best thread? Best you started?
Favourite thread would have to be the Greg Baum thread.
Or maybe Dimma’s Music thread. Learnt a lot from that one.

Best LOL moment on BB you can remember
Some of the bald faced lies by BD18 would be hard to go past. Also some of Noonan’s bad puns are pure gold, as are some of VD’s posts. Also some of the reactions you and I got Albert, when we had a discussion on the board in Latin were pretty good. Really, when I think about it, there are just so many.

Best memory from the forums?
Some of the really nice people I have met, and the things I have learnt about my club from people far more knowledgeable than myself.

BB provides many opportunities to sound off. Any Pet peeves you would like to get on the record here?
People who won’t have a go. Asian drivers. People with no sense of humour. Religious zealots. Right wing wankers like Andrew Bolt.

Catchphrases as posts – yay or nay?
Nay

How many people are on your ignore list?
None

Any suggestions as to how BB could be improved?
Get it back to how it was. Less abuse, Less filth. More respect. And I’m as guilty as anyone for letting it slide. *I agree but only with the first part – there is too much misdirected testosterone around at times. It makes the place less fun and less of a community than it used to be. /editorial *

OK, let’s get onto what brings us all here: Essendon

Is Essendon in your genes? If not, when, where and how did you realise EFC is the way to go?
Lol. Is it in the genes? It’s your job to make sure that for the good of humanity it is spliced into the human genome, so that the whole world follows the Bombers by default, Albert! But as for when did I know Essendon was the way to go. When I was a toddler. My neighbours (both sides) followed the Bombers, as did my parents. I was allocated my team rather than chose it! No complaints tho!

Your first Essendon memory?
Staring at a b/w tv while the old man (who hated tv, and never showed any emotion, ever) screamed and carried on like a lunatic.

Best Bomber moment over the years you have been following Essendon?
Don’t know if this is the sort of moment you are looking for, but – I went to the funeral of an elderly lady I had known all my life, and the last thing you heard, as the coffin left the chapel, was “see the bombers fly up”. Brought tears to my eyes that did. Passion for the Bombers from the cradle to the grave, A truly magic, very touching, moment.

Yes, that’s great. Shows that footy is just so much more than a game and let’s hope we can still see it once we pass through this valley of tears. When the 1985 and 2000 teams play each other in Heaven, which side would you back in?
While 2000 was a great experience, it would be 85 for sure. That would have to be close to the best team I have ever seen. Just too tough for the 2000 boys I think.

Back in the real world, who is your favourite (not necessarily best) player – all time? on today’s list?
Can’t give you just one. You’ll have to settle for Greg Brown (I still remember those raking drop kicks from FB)/Ken Fraser/Paul Van Der Haar/Leon Baker/James Hird/Mark Mercuri/ Mark McVeigh.

Essendon was fortunate to have Kevin Sheedy coach us to four flags, as well as providing hundreds of great memories along the way. What’s your favourite ‘Sheeds’ Moment’?
The throat slitting motion toward Mitchell White in 2000. That was just real passion and love for his players. Superb!

If you ever met MK, what is one question you’d love to ask?
Do you really bat for the other team?

If you were “Vlad for a Day” what would you change about footy?
I’d dismantle the rules committee, put a moratorium on rule changes, sack Pamela Anderson, and then sack myself!

LOL OK, you got my vote! Thanks, mate! This will be a hard act to follow, but we’ll grab another poor unsuspecting person next week.
