Blitzing the Blitzers! - megz
By Albert_Thurgood
This week we continue our new feature for BomberBlitz. Regular readers of the Forums get a sense of the community we have here, and will form some ideas about what their fellow members are like, but these interviews will get all that juicy info together into one package!
Each week we will put the spotlight on a different BB member. Last week, Reboot kicked off the series, and this time we turn to someone from the opposite end of the BB demographic. Not only is she another of the longest-serving Blitzers, she’s one of Australia’s most famous dietitians. Megz, welcome to Blitzing the Blitzers!
Let’s start by asking about your alias. Has yours been the same since Day 1, and why did you choose it?
It’s a short version of my name and I’m too lazy to think of anything else.
There is a wide range of avatars on BB. Again some people change theirs regularly, but I think you have had yours for a while… What message about yourself are you sending to the world with your avatar?
Betty Boop is a style icon of mine. I love her.
Your byline is “Innocent“… of what, may I ask?
Everything!
When Andy loosens the purse-strings and shouts drinks at this year’s BB Christmas Party, what’s your “poison”?
Vodka, lime and soda.
BBers live in many locations around the world, though most reside in Melbourne. Where do you hang your hat these days?
Melbourne, right near the Dome.
You say you are from your’s “not Bugman’s ivory tower”? What’s the difference between them?
Just a bit of fun between the two of us. He had “My Ivory Tower” for ages, and changed my profile to say our place was “his”. I had to get some revenge.
One strange fact about yourself? (You don’t need to limit yourself to one!)
I have a slightly split personality. i.e. I can be hyper and morose, cynical and hopeful, confident and shy.
How do you spend your non-Essendon time … occupation, other hobbies and interests?
Dietitian (duh) working in a lot of outer suburbs in private practice.
Hobbies: swing dancing, reading, music, shoes, shopping.
If applicable, does your other half share your interest in EFC? If s/he follows another team, how do you get on if they beat us?
I think most know the answer to that. I post more under Bugman’s account than my own these days.
My turn for the duh! moment… Of course you two are the famous doppelganger of BB!
On the BomberBlitz Pizza® what topping would you be ?
No idea!
 That’s the first time I have seen you stumped on a food-related question… I guess as a dietitian, it would have to be something wholesome!
OK, Let’s talk about Bomberblitz…
Nominate favourite/Best thread? Best you started?
Greg Baum should be fired from the Age! Not sure about one I’ve started.
Best LOL moment on BB you can remember
Pazza/fireball – my memory is quite short,
Best memory from the forums?
I can’t think of any.
BB provides many opportunities to sound off. Any Pet Peeves you would like to get on the record here?
People who quote a whole long post just to write “yes” or “thanks” annoy me. It’s annoying to read.
Agreed. And there’s a new fad now: quoting the post without adding anything. I suppose that saves wear and tear on their keyboards!
Catchphrases as posts – yay or nay?
Good to start with, annoying if over used
How many people are on your ignore list?
None! When someone’s on ignore I see the button to click to see what they’ve written and it’s too tempting. When I haven’t got them on ignore I can just skip past it.
Any suggestions as to how BB could be improved?
Less morons!
OK, let’s get onto what brings us all here: Essendon!
Is Essendon in your genes? If not, when, where and how did you realise EFC is the way to go?
On Mum’s side I’m a 3rd generation Essendon supporter, on Dad’s 4th, maybe 5th generation. I barrack for Essendon because Mum told me she wouldn’t feed me.
Goodonya, Mum!
Your first Essendon memory?
A game versus Sydney in 1992/93 at the MCG. We won, my brother played little league, whilst my other brother umpired it and I liked the name Simon Minton-Connell. I was only 9-10!
That puts things in perspective for the old curmudgeons!
Best Bomber moment over the years you have been following Essendon?
2000, just the season in general
When the 1985 and 2000 teams play each other in Heaven, which side would you back in?
I was only born in 1983, so I have no idea!
Back in the real world, who is your favourite (not necessarily best) player – first: of all time?
Gavin Wanganeen. I cried when he left.
I think Sheeds may have as well! From today’s list whose number would be on your duffle coat?
None, I’m not allowed. They get delisted.
That may need a bit of explanation for newer members: Megz would single out a young player, only for him to be delisted or traded soon afterwards. Ted Richards was the latest example. Who else was there?
Teddy probably isn’t the best example – I love-love-loved Gavin Wanganeen, cried so hard when he left.
After him – Caracella and Blumfield, then Danny Jacobs, then Teddy. Every player I love disappears. When Bugman made my kiss of death signature, he used Mark Bolton as the mystery player. It worked.

Essendon was fortunate to have Kevin Sheedy coach us to four flags, as well as providing hundreds of great memories along the way. What’s your favourite ‘Sheeds’ Moment’?
He did a speech at my school’s speech night one year, and my mother got a book signed for me. He’s a great inspirational speaker.
If you ever met Matthew Knights, what is one question you’d love to ask?
How do you put up with the crap people heap on you?
If you were “Vlad for a Day” what would you change about footy?
Stop changing things!
Finally, is there anything else you would like to get on the record here?
Although doughnuts are one of the world’s ultimate “sometimes” foods, I would go with chocolate covered jam doughnuts as my favourite.
Thanks, Megz!
