EXCLUSIVE: KEVIN Sheedy has given the strongest indication yet that he would consider coaching Richmond next year.

Writing on his regular SuperFooty blog, Sheedy said he would talk to the Tigers if they approached him.

“You would always talk to the Tigers if they asked you. I heard Kevin (Barlett) pumped me up this morning on radio … . He knows where I come from. It's good to have a rest for a year and rejuvenate yourself.”

The former Essendon coach said he felt his record at Windy Hill made him a strong candidate.

“Look, at a pinch I couldn't do any worse. I don't apologise for averaging 14 wins a year for the last 27 years,” Sheedy said.

The Tigers have formed a sub-committee to look for a senior coach to take the reins next year following Terry Wallace’s resignation earlier this month.

Jade Rawlings is caretaker coach until the end of the season, and Sheedy believes he has taken the right path by giving the younger players time.

“(The Tigers) are doing the right thing right now playing every kid on the list. Rawlings has done the right thing by the board and club. Unfortunately you can't forget the scoreboard, but don't go into depression mode over it. I did it a few times at Essendon and people spat the dummy, but you have to find a couple of good kids,” he said.

Sheedy said he would not necessarily cut a swathe through the list.

“I think what happens, and I have only been to a club once as coach, is that we got the broom out gradually. Players are better dedicated these days than ever before, but you give everyone the chance to see what they have done, and how they are thinking. Interviews with players are very important … that’s what its about, how you connect groups of people together,” Sheedy said.

The former Richmond back pocket paid tribute to the club’s resilient supporters.

“Building a club is absolutely crucial for the mighty Tigers ... Membership hasn't shut but they are up to 37,000 plus. It's a great result for a club that has been to the finals twice in a quarter of a century. Only Collingwood would be able to do that. Not many clubs have the power of the people and capacity to really shake. The Tigers do.”

Apparently, also listening to, and reading online discussions involving Richmond supporters, they all want Sheedy to coach them next year (they also want Hird as an assistant to him.)

He's just what Richmond need laugh.gif
Bowden, King and co will sleep easier.

Hope not, would hate for Richmond to have success, especially off the back of Sheedy.

The time is ripe, the stage is set, the homecoming for the Daydream Believers etc. Probably won't get the gig, but worth him having a shot at it. Good to see he is still hungry . . . for more records !!!

Would give their membership, a massive boost, but that is and has to remain a secondary consideration in the Tigers search for a new coach. l think at the very least he could provide them with a solid basis for some future success. lf not under him, he should be able to get the processes in place for his successor to do something.

I'm surprised that they don't want Hardwick.

And the fact he's a 4 time premiership coach, got us to the finals 20 odd times while the Tigers struggled, averages 14 wins a season and had us sitting in this EXACT spot in his last season as coach. The debate has been had in another thread but let's not forget without him we wouldn't have Ryder, Reimers, Lonergan, Neagle, Gumbleton, Davey ect (Pretty much all of our list laugh.gif).

For all his downfalls, and there are plenty, he's a farking good coach and clubs would be insane not to consider him. He's certainly a better candidate than Jade Rawlings.

Would hate to see him in charge of the Tigers.

I would love to see Sheeds coach again. Just not us though.
Seriously, I think he has a lot to offer Richmond, I hope he gets a look in.
The AFL needs a bit of Kevin Sheedy madness.
The only real vetran coach now, is just a grumpy old c***.

I worked with Richmond President Gary March for a couple of months earlier this year. From the little footy information that I was able to drag out of him I would suggest that Sheedy is highly unlikely to be offered the coaching job.

Resilient supporters? PLEASE.

They crawled out of the woodwork when Cousins was drafted thinking they'd make the top 8 at worst.

Take him out and they get 30k as usual.

Yeah, they also said they wouldn't take Cousins - then changed their minds.

I'm pretty sure we wouldn't need to worrie about this sheedy was finished as a coach in his last 2 seasons for us. Don't get me wrong what he did for the dons was great but he favoured players to much and just seemed to get beaten game plan wise.
